Dr. Maria Claudia Caldas-Vasquez is a pediatric endocrinologist at UT Physicians, affiliated with McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, where she has served for the past seven years. She is a key member of the High Risk Children’s Clinic, providing care to medically complex pediatric patients with compassion and expertise.
Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, Dr. Caldas-Vasquez completed medical school in her home country before pursuing her pediatric residency at UTMB Galveston and a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at Baylor College of Medicine. Her academic excellence has been recognized with the “Outstanding Pediatric Residency Scholarly Project Award” and the “Award for Research Poster Presentation” at the Fellows Research Symposium. She continues to give back through mentorship, volunteering with the Texas Pediatric Society’s preceptorship program.
A dedicated member of LAMAH since 2016, Dr. Caldas-Vasquez has served on the Board for seven years and led the organization as President in 2023 and 2024. She spearheaded initiatives like Historias que nos Unen, a literacy program that distributes books to children in clinics and hospital wards, and organized multiple toy drives to support underserved children, including those impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
Her leadership reflects a deep commitment to equity, education, and community service—values she brings to every aspect of her work.
