LAMAH Scholarship Program
The LAMAH Scholarship Program celebrates medical students who embody the values at the heart of our mission: service, mentorship, leadership, and a commitment to advancing health across our region. This program recognizes exceptional students whose academic achievements and community involvement reflect both excellence in medicine and a deep dedication to others.
Our goal is simple — to uplift and support the next generation of highly skilled physicians who are passionate about serving diverse communities and strengthening the future of healthcare.
What the Scholarship Honors
LAMAH scholarships are awarded to medical students who demonstrate:
- Outstanding academic performance
- Meaningful community engagement and service
- A commitment to mentorship and lifting others
- Leadership rooted in compassion, integrity, and cultural humility
- A passion for advancing health equity across Houston and beyond
These students represent the future of medicine — bright, driven, and deeply committed to making a difference.
Why This Program Matters
For many students, the journey through medical school is shaped not only by hard work but by financial pressures, limited access to mentorship, and the challenge of balancing service with academic demands.
By recognizing and supporting these students, LAMAH aims to:
- Reduce financial barriers
- Encourage continued community involvement
- Strengthen the pipeline of diverse, community-minded physicians
- Celebrate the values that define our organization
Inspire future leaders in medicine
Investing in these students is an investment in the health of our region.
Our Vision for the Future
As LAMAH grows, so will our scholarship program. Our long-term vision includes expanding opportunities to:
- Support students at different stages of training
- Recognize excellence in service, leadership, and advocacy
- Foster a strong network of scholars who continue to give back
- Build a legacy of physicians committed to equity and community impact
This program is more than an award — it’s a commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders in medicine.

“I want to thank the Hispanic American Medical Association of Houston for awarding the scholarship. I was born in Mexico City and moved to El Paso Texas when I was four years old. I will be applying Pediatrics this next upcoming cycle and plan to specialize in neonatology in the future”
Zaira Villa
“I’m honored to have been selected as a recipient of this scholarship and I’m incredibly grateful to the HAMAH and all of its members for their support. I appreciate the continued efforts by this organization to support Hispanic medical students like myself. I hope to return to Houston in continuing the HAMAH tradition of supporting the next Generations of Hispanic positions.”
Triana Fernandez
“The financial aid I have received during my medical education, including the HAMAH scholarship, has allowed me to focus on school and community outreach. Any scholarship received, no matter the amount, decreases the financial burden on students. Furthermore, it encourages the scholarship recipients to give back to the community. I appreciate the support I have received from HAMAH, and the donors that make that scholarship possible.”
Efrain Rodriguez
“One of the challenges as a medical student is budgeting cost of living while also paying for tuition and other medical school expenses, including board examinations. The HAMAH scholarship is going to help me cover a good portion of the cost of my board examinations, relieving some of the financial stress and allowing me to focus more on academic leadership and community service. I’m grateful to HAMAH for supporting the advancement of Hispanic students in the medicine.”
